Celebrating Mandela Day at BOSASA

BOSASA Group | Mandela Day 2016| 67 Minutes Of Service Nelson Mandela was one of the most iconic leaders South Africa has ever known. After spending 27 years detained as a political prisoner he was released in 1991 after the fall of Apartheid. Then he was elected President in 1994 in the first truly democratic elections in South Africa.

Mandela spent 67 years in public service, committed to healing the nation and making the world a better place. The United Nations officially declared 18 July as Nelson Mandela International Day in November 2009. In honour of the 67 years Mandela dedicated, people across the country are asked to spend 67 minutes in the service of others.

In addition to the role Mandela had as a political leader he was also passionate about empowering youth and protecting the rights of children. One of his first actions he took on becoming President of the newly democratic South Africa in 1994 was to establish the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund.
